The Standard Division was developed to allow students of all
abilities and musical backgrounds to have a fair chance in the
competition.
Instead of using the age of the student as the main criteria, the
Board of Directors has developed a special list of songs from
which each teacher may choose a selection that would match
their student’s abilities.
All though subdivisions of the Standard Division are divided by
age, the student who has taken lessons for less time or one
whose teacher uses a more traditional repertoire will still have
the same opportunity.
Students may enter only one division per year, on each
instrument played. All songs must be memorized and an
original copy supplied for the judge during the competition.
First Place winners in the Standard Division must move up to a
higher level each year.
